rRfactor 2 has gifted us both a car and track that I've been longing for for years.
Both the Miata and Willow Springs are a big step up from the best versions of each in rF1.
As many of you may know, Mazda Miatas were or still are the most roadraced car in the USA.
Anyone thinking about doing some real world club racing would have to consider the various Spec Miata series.
We had some excellently close racing with the Flat 6 cars but it was no better than what we enjoyed with the Datsun B110s but much more spread out on laps times. The Miatas aren't as easy to drive as the Datsun B110 but I feel that because of that they are more immersive.
A new track for most of us, Willow Springs is very demanding in that the racing line is at times inches from the edge of the pavement bordered by nothing gripper than dry grass or sand.
You'll notice that many of the apexes and turn-ins are marked with pylons. Use them as useful references, especially the last corner which is probably the most important turn.
When you pick your car, go to UPGRADES and make sure that the H-shifter is NOT selected otherwise you get the annoying slipping clutch penalty if you shift faster than someone decided that you should be able to.
Someday we'll make a Special Event if not a full race series with these cars, hard for me not to fantasize about something that is almost attainable in real life.

No aero. No slicks. What's not to like? ... Besides radial tires.

Sorry for the mistake with the race start setting. I think that someone grabbed me as I was working on the server settings and I when I sat back down I moved to the next screen not realizing that I had scrolled to Rolling Start.
That was fun but with a new track, fewer races and no restarts due to time constraints we were more spread out than I had wished for. It makes perfect sense that we'll do better next week @ (very familiar) Road Atlanta but no one should expect to be able to magically appear for qualifying on Sunday with no practice and expect to have much fun.
rFactor 2 remains a proper sim not a video game no matter what cars we drive and if there are any cars that are so easy as to be video-gamish, we won't be using them.
It was nice to lure Jim Carvalho back to the grid and we had one new drop-in for a total of 10 drivers at one point.

Mostly fun night of racing and great to see Jimmy on the grid again. I was frustrated with my lack of lap time compared to the front pack. It seemed to me that I was loosing most of time in the down hill left hander after the top of the hill, looked like Tom and others would just blow by me after that from carrying way more speed through there. These cars reminded me of my days of Kart racing, don't scrub any speed.
The new version of the track was great.

Great car/track combo. Pure momentum and scrub avoidance.
