Rain has arrived to iRacing!
There are two Week 13 series with rain. One is always at Nordschleife, GT3 cars and the Toyota GR86, the other is a different track each day, GTP plus the Dallara P217.
I didn't have the track for the P217 yesterday but I did try the GR86 @ Nords. It was fine, no Big Deal, less grip obviously and have to learn when and which puddles to avoid plus there is supposed to be more grip off the dry racing line because of the asphalt being polished smoother on the racing line. The windshield has a Rain-X effect with droplets beading and blowing up the windshield at speed which I know from experience isn't quite accurate, the drops move much faster than that even at legal road speeds but maybe it's easier on processors this way. There is also visible rainfall but plenty of visibility. Following another car however is different story, can't see much when you are in their spray. We have been exposed to similar when following some cars that you can't "see through" but the water is definitely harder.
I tried AI races with the Formula Ford. Extra challenging for sure with hydroplaning and braking from higher speeds being hard, the tires take a long time to get spinning again if you lock up and the track has standing water.
Weekend Warriors has a full grid of 60 Formula Fords for their vRunoffs @ Okayama on Sunday with rain ensured. I am hoping that years with low grip Historics cars here and real life experience on dirt and wet pavement will help me qualify near the front, otherwise I expect a frustrating race. Whatever happens, I'll finish the race but I'm not expecting a great race with plenty of bad ones recently without rain.
Week 13 unranked races remain carefree and fun. Good opportunity of course to race in the rain but Tube Frame Twister with the Street Stocks is my favorite. I've been chipping away at the setup, felt pretty damn good at Snetterton where I had two dominant wins.
Test Drive was up till the afternoon (IIRC) on Tuesday so I was able to try a couple of cars that I don't own. The Late Model was one of them. OMG, what a fun car. Wonderful interior sounds, easy but challenging at the same time to drive, feels fast but really isn't. To me GT4 and probably Porsche Cup are the limit for fast but still possible to have close racing with. I think that Late Model is slower than both but come to think of it GT4 vs Late Model would be interesting. I might dabble into the Oval side next season to give me a better reason to buy the Late Model. If I can use it to advance from D to C license with at least one road course on the schedule, I'll get it.
Licenses split already, so this week is all about fun.
