I'm working on some budgeting, including money that I can justify spending on sim racing, with new equipment purchases and iRacing membership renewal on the horizon.
Until I had enough tracks to participate in at least 8 rounds of series I was interested in, I'd mostly been buying six items at a time to get the 20% discount. I earned $4-10 iRacing credits every season and received a couple of unexplained credits from iRacing. I have a feeling that one of those was for the Mercedes AMG GT3 car that was obsoleted the next season but I'm not sure.
To date, I have purchased 8 cars and 20 tracks and have paid for 24 months membership.
Total cost = $410.48
That will not increase before my 24 months is up so I'll be at $17.10 / month through 2022-11-30
Going forward, I expect to earn $8 per season in iRacing credit.
The only cars that I have any interest in buying are the Toyota GR86 that has been announced for 2023 and the Mustang GT4 when and if we ever get that.
At most, I envision buying two cars and two tracks a year so that's about $22/yr factoring in $32/yr in credits but no other discounts. At most, 24 month membership will be $200 so about $244 for the next two years, $10.17/month.

If someone could kindly post here when the black friday deal comes out for iRacing, I would reactivate my sub. Thanks.

Thanks Tom for costing it out like that and makes it seem reasonable to afford. I'm still not there yet.

Update in appreciation of my neighbor who should be sim racing to supplement his real world automobile club roadracing.
It seems that 25% off renewals around Black Friday is reliable which makes a 24 month renewal $149.25.
New users get 50% off so that's $100 for two years
Going forward for me:
minimum direct cost = (149.25 membership - $64 participation credits) / 24 = $3.55 per month, $43 per year
realistic = (149.25 membership - $64 ParCred + $23.90 two cars + $29.90 two tracks) / 24 = $5.80 per month, $70 per year
Unfortunately, new drivers really need to get in during the holidays to minimize the overall cost but I'd say that anyone interested in the roadracing side could get it done for no greater cost than my approach which has me at $426 for the first 24 months, more cars than I need and all of the tracks that I've needed.
I was fortunate to be able to piecemeal my way ~10 years thru Nov 2022 point with a gifted Logitech G27, low priced PC, home made rig, super nice Honda Prelude SH seat bought during the Great Recession for $75, rFactor with all its free content, Efnet and our at most $50 year server expense, etc
For a new sim racer, it's a big buy-in but for a real world racer, sim racing feels compulsory / indispensable for its trivial ongoing expense that is in the pennies per hour of seat time, basically zero residual, parasitic, overhead, wasted time and zero personal physical nor financial risk.
Hell, there is probably even some cardiovascular benefit based on elevated heart rate that I observed many years ago when I was playing around with a heart rate monitor. Well, health benefit if sitting on my ass doesn't keep me from actual exercise. Certainly good for our brains...

You're forgetting the discounts you get after you own a certain percentage of content.

This discount is calculated at the time of purchase, which means, if new content becomes available in the future, this would need to be purchased in order to receive the discount again. For example, if there are 100 pieces of content available and you already have purchased 97, you need to purchase the remaining 3 pieces in order to receive the discount, even if you had previously received the discount All discounts are automatically calculated at checkout. Yeah, I guess I'll eventually hit the 40 items owned, 20% off threshold. Thanks for the reminder, I could be closer to 40 than I think and at this point, I'm pretty well all-in anyway.
For the first several cycles, I'd been buying 6 at a time to get 15% off.
