Entering 2022 Season 4 with a shifter that relies on a failure prone rubber band and without a clutch pedal, the Porsche Mission R had some appeal because it requires neither.
Then I watched a couple of videos that made me realize that there is currently no place in my life to race essentially a Porsche Cup car that sounds like an electric RC car and has to be turned up to 1000+ HP for qualifying and will be focusing on the way more for fun to race slower cars.
I'll try to focus on three series and fall back to two if I can't afford the effort.
Sim Lab PCC with the Mustang FR500S is a given. I like the car, it shifts slow so my shifter is less of a problem and the racing is reliably low incident. Also, the Mustang will be featured in iRacing's 2022 SCCA Runoffs so I am motivated to keep up with the seat time.
I'm motivated and tempted to roll the dice on Mazdas. They are arguably the funnest car to just jump in and drive. Mastering them requires mastering the fundamentals: racing lines, braking, cornering and acceleration in an extremely competitive environment. Advanced Mazda seems like a safer series as far as iR and SR risk due to the 35 minute races, single class (25-28 entries IIRC) and maybe possibly the C license minimum. Sim Lab is an obvious two-for-one sharing the same track as the Mustang but seems riskier. If there was an unranked Mazdas series, I'd probably get a race in every night.
My least favorite of the three is the BMW M4 GT4. The Open C-license GT4 series is good as far as speed and adjustability (not too overwhelming) but the Bimmer is often a pushy pig compounded by my numb worn out Logitech G27.
I'm more attracted to the Michelin Pilot Challenge GT4 2 hour races which are every the week at a usually convenient 8:00 or 9:00 PM Friday evening time slot. All four of my Season 3 races had major hardships but I think all resulted in acceptable results thanks to the endurance racing-like way that they played out. Well, there you go, skip the daily dozen GT4 races and just do the bi-weekly ones until I get new equipment, even better if that corresponds with a Mustang GT4 release.
