I joined three leagues last week with Tuesday (today) being my first races with Ray Esports @ VIR, Mazda MX-5 and Spec Racer Ford.
I did some laps last night with both which was enough took keep me on the track but about 3 seconds off the leaders in both series. I was conscious of car numbers below and above 200 which in its sister FV and SRF Weekend Warriors leagues correspond to drivers above and below 3000 iRating respectively so I let two digit cars by a number of times figuring that there was no need to race with them even if I wasn't the new guy and had more confidence.
Both races were like real world races with care taken to avoid avoidable contact while still competing. I put a wheel off in the Mazda race but in SRF race I got caught with nowhere to go after someone spun ahead of us on two or three occasions which cost me track position (well, gained from the guy who spun but lost to cars behind me) and minor damage once and made impossible a 0X race which would have paid 4 bonus points.
The Mazda race was up first, a little too early in the day for me and also precluded any practice other than 12 or so minutes that was left in qualifying for the SRF race.
I enjoyed the SRF more as I'm lacking speed but my car control is good so I was more competitive with it. If I had to choose, I'd go with the SRF going forward.
FV Weekend Warriors runs Saturday around noon my time. I was happy to get to know them a little last Saturday but am unlikely to race on Saturday in the middle of the day again.
SFR Weekend Warriors runs Sunday at the same time and I am planning on doing that week after week so long as I have the track.
Fun and zero frustration with the league races.
Way too many possibilities this week in public series but not so much base content which on the road race side is limited to Sim Lab PCC, Formula Vee and SCCA Spec Racer Ford@ Tsukuba and Mazdas @ Okayama.
I got a Sim Lab PCC race out of the way Monday night with the Solstice @ Tsukuba so I'm probably done with that. There were only two of us, he was quicker, I was in it purely for SR so not much fun, practice at best and getting lapped was stressful when the only goal was a 0X. I am tempted to try again with the Mustang for a feeling of accomplishment but I can let go of that, risk is too high.
I have no trust in the Brazilian stock car crowd especially at @ Red Bull Ring but look forward to lapping with Coffey later in the week.
IMSA Pilot Challenge is at Nurburging Combined (a section of GP track plus Nordschliefe), I am more inclined to try a race there as it allows the field to spread out a bit before joining the mountain road.
M.O.A.R. 120 minute GT4 / TC race at Nurburging Combined sometime this week (Fri, Sat,Sun?) I'm tempted contingent on time of day.
Last week's Brazilian stock car debacle has more more interested in Porsche Cup @ Sebring.
Radical SR8 @ Road America is interesting.
GT3s @ Sebring
