To the tune of >100 Mb/s vs <50 Mb/s
Pat was having some issues and within that discussion, our internet speeds came up and I was astonished to hear downloads 75 Mb/s to over 100 for those present while mine was in the 40s, 50 miles from Silicon Valley.
My bottleneck seems to be an old router because when I go straight to the modem/gateway, it was well over 100. When we had league races Sunday nights, I connected my race PC directly to the modem but I've been less stringent since I started iRacing.
I may reconfigure our network to replace the old 100 Mb/s router with a 1000 Mb/s switch and use the wired part of our wireless router (1000 Mb/s I think) as the router.
modem ---> old router ---> ethernet jacks ---> wireless router
modem ---> wireless router ---> new network switch ---> ethernet jacks
Maybe do a reality check every once in awhile. A couple of months ago, our DVR stopped working right after Comcast had a scheduled outage. It turned out that because of the work that they did, the CATV signal was reduced, we had a marginal CATV amplifier and the signal fell below the operating range of the DVR. The tech installed a new amp and we were back in business, probably better than ever.
