Week 2

Post by tomlory on Sept 20, 2021 19:22:19 GMT
I'm probably going to skip Advanced Miata this week. I like Laguna Seca but it doesn't make for great racing and I have trouble at Corkscrew touching the dirt at the first apex too often, otherwise it could be good to start in the back and lap for 25 minutes for safety rating.
I'm aiming for P-Cup, both series, Sunday night.
No Global Fanatec for me this week. I don't have the track nor 26 hours to practice.
BMW is entirely possible to arrive and drive but I'll put some time in, more fun to have some race pace.
First go with the Sim Lab Ford Mustang FR500S. Should be able to paint up a couple of cars (to rub the paint off of) for Coffey and me.
I'm looking forward to NASCAR truck at Charlotte. Thanks to Mike Campbell, I learned first hand that Indycars are flat around the Charlotte oval but no idea about the trucks other than there can't possibly be 15 mph of closing speed due to draft and hopefully there is some cornering skill required so maybe we'll actually make it to the end of a race with the unskilled drivers behind into the wall within a lap or two of the start.

Thanks for all the updates and the schedules for the various series. I'm going to to try make a bunch of these, see what I can do about getting in more iRacing. Still want to do more RaceRoom too, just not enough time in a week right now for me but we are heading into shorter and colder days.

Shockingly, I made it through a NASCAR truck race (victoriously) and a Street Stock race with ZERO incidents on Monday night. Afterwards, I was motivated to get my D license in paved oval this week but I probably won't be able to justify the time cost.
I think that my theory on Charlotte oval with the trucks will be prove to be true beyond my one successful race; the corners have to be driven and draft is a minor factor compared to Daytona where it is everything.
I've done some laps at Hungaroring with Porsche Cup, Formula Vee and Mazda MX-5 and a handful more at Hockenheimring with the BMW M4 GT4 and Ford Mustang FR500S.

Nice Tom. I checked out the oval side of things but it looks like several tracks will need to be purchased. I might use the ones I have now & see if its worth investing further.

Week 2

Disastrous iRacing weekend for me -1.4 safety, -100(ish) iRating kicked off by a cluster fuck last second Advanced Mazda MX-5 race (Laguna Seca) Sunday evening that ended with my car on its roof missing the right front and left rear suspension and not helped a bit by a very technical Hungaroring with corner-specific track limits and a very different feeling new Porsche Cup car.
Bullshit license system as far whether someone is good to race with or not, bullshit track limits and bullshit time penalties for running off onto runoff area to avoid an incident and giving up time but at another track one can drive through the grass to cut the corner completely.
Moving up to a D license for paved oval was probably the highlight for the week. Pathetic high note.
Next week scales back significantly with me having content for only two road racing series that I'm interested in. Great timing for that as I was on the verge of packing up all my sim racing shit and looking for a ball sport rec league, the fun we had when ESR was in its golden age appears regrettably to be as unattainable and unrepeatable as reliving a makeout session as a 16 year old with the girl that I had a crush on from 6th grade-on.
end of week ratings: B / 2.06 / 1591

Well, I had some free time so I sat down with resolve to have a clean race and help my safety number. BMW M4 GT4 @ Hockenheimring. Qualified last, let everyone go, got punted by the #2 qualifier after he caused a crash a couple of laps earlier and fell to the back. Two corners plus one lap to go.
end of week rating: B / 2.06 / 1540
Fuck you Bruno Vitorini. Learn how to race.

It appears Tom this is a little more stressful than originally thought. I now realize I've got a long way to go and I as well as you have shared the frustration but I will continue to march forward till I realize some kind of self worth. I don't want to even talk about ovals siince after exeprience Charlotte, there is a massive challenge and to add in the idiot factor, may just stick with practice rounds for awhile there. So I enetered the Mazda race, started 11th and finished 12th and my rating went down -20 and safety up .01. Yep, and finish that off with the most grueling ISO 9000 audit ever since 2005. Its Monday and I feel like crap! Catch up with you all on the weekend.

I'm thinking that I'll take a bad Mazda race over an ISO 9000 audit.
