We were and currently are a R Factor racing league. But unfortunately despite all the positive about it, RF2 and Studio 397 are very frustrating as to the direction and functionality of their sim. Which may explain why it struggles to attract new racers.
Amongst the five of us that were on last night we had a really good discussion as to what is currently going on with EFNET and us as racers. While it was agreed on that we like what we are doing on Sunday nights fun racing and will continue with it, the server is paid for. We are exploring other racing sims, Tom is doing iRacing along with Hutty, Rich, Mike and I have done some. Myself, I’m digging further into RaceRoom3 Experience and liking it so far, I’m also going to try out Assetto Corsa again. Pat is open to trying other sims and has AC, ACC and just got RaceRoom.
Overall, the opinions and consensuses amongst us five are that iRacing is the big sim in the US while RF2 and RaceRoom seem to have more league following overseas and more so Europe. Assetto Corsa (AC and ACC) in my checking around for American leagues running RR that most seem to run AC and ACC along with some RF2. As for the other sims, Automobilista and PCars none of us are currently running or don’t have and I didn’t find much league activity for them. It looks like next to iRacing, AC and ACC have the biggest following.
I'm sure we will be having more of these discussions.

I'm a sim hog so I own AC, ACC, AM2, iRacing & 'tried out' Pcars3 (which sucks). AC is always good if you want to race; always servers with action. ACC is great but runs just fair in VR on my system. There's a need to upgrade my pc but the prices are way overboard atm. AM2 is actually quite good & although not as populated as AC, there are always a few servers to race on. The sim is really evolving well. It works great in vr also. I'm open to whatever, I just love to race with this group no matter what sim... although rF2 is my go to.

Hutty last night said he deleted ACC because of several reasons and one being it was a graphics hog.
Myself I have to try AC again and maybe some multiplayer racing.
Pat bought the same content I did for RR3E and got his view positions settings good and said he liked it.

Looking for some feedback before I cancel the remainder of Flat 6 series. Aside from 3 or 4 ESR regulars, there has been zero interest, maybe 1 driver on the server during the week and no new drivers registered.
The plan will probably be to have a series ready for Fall and Winter but if there aren't X number of registered drivers then it won't happen.
Hosting private races on our schedule with iRacing is a viable option. We have less control over an iRacing server than what we enjoy with rF2 dedicated server but the cost would be a fraction of what we pay for our 24/7 NRT race server. If I can figure out how to easily do an inverted grid Race 2, there really will be little to zero reason to dream about rF2 in its current form.

I wouldn't spend too much time planning for an upcoming series. I doubt that by fall or winter we'll get an influx of new drivers to rF2. I'd still be up for some rF2 racing but I'm not gonna hold my breath for a series. iRacing on a hosted server will probably be the way to go plus we can announce it in the forums & surely pick up several drivers. The money we spent on the rF2 server could be injected into new cars/tracks in iRacing.

Nix rF2 and host on iRacing - sounds like the right thing to do to me.

Right now I don't see RF2 working for us with maybe 6 to 7 of us that might show up. So I wouldn't put the effort into it. I'm enjoying RaceRoom but if we want to do Sunday night EFNET iRacing I can do that and maybe we pick up some GBR guys. Maybe more too.
