I only listened to rF2, iRacing and Raceroom.
I'm actually at peace with rF2 at the moment as far as my user experience. I can make it do everything that I need it to do for me without much effort and don't spend any energy focusing on how it could be improved. I've maybe once been disconnected during a race, very rarely does it lock up, my frame rates are good with a 10 year old PC and a <$200 motherboard powered graphics card. The only unhappiness that I get from rF2 is that we can't seem to get 10 or more drivers on the grid to have a championship series.
There are more than enough excellent free cars and tracks so I don't care about how less than perfect the paid DLC cars are. We as a club hosted BTCC, Simtek GT3, S397 GT3, Toyota AE86 spanning well over a year without having to re-use tracks and I could have done the Flat 6 series with all new tracks. After that we would have been close to depleting the good free tracks but then again more and more new ones are probably coming.
My iRacing complaints are the inability to demo cars and tracks before buying them and inconsistent track limits. With iRacing, you need to learn the track limits corner by corner. One corner may allow a tire in the dirt, another allows two tires touching the curb, another only allows straddling the curb, another allows straddling but an unknown amount. Frustrates the shit out of me who has is new to iRacing, has limited free time and is used to our consistent track limits and legal racing surface.
iRacing is costly compared to rF2 but in the Big Picture it is still cheap entertainment, cheap sport and relative to 3D organic world racing anything it's practically free.

I managed to free myself up to watch only rF2. IMO I agree with him and as a result you cannot argue with him, the activity on rF2 servers speaks for itself. Can't be more simpler than that.
Some other company has a better hold on the market through better management and strategy/vision. Whatever it really is, it must be right since their servers are busier.
I realize I'm no help regarding our specific issue concerning activity but here again, others are somewhere else and they chose to do so based on their own reasons. And it wasn't because they do not like racing me or you or whoever.

I agree with everything said. I'm just so frustrated with the experience of using it to try and race. I really don't care that much about the DLC either. The continuing non fixing of things that are years old, then to dump the steaming pile of the new UI on us and forced to use with out addressing to correct so many obvious issues. The direction and focus of the company seems lost to me.
As I have said before, fix the basic core functionality including streamline, simplifying the UI before any more new content.

ARRRRRRGH! I wanted to hop into a competition server in rF2... None of the races were open unless I bought content. FUCK YOU! What a big piece of shit they created. Why not have one or two servers available for all users? Maybe that would get more people interested & racing... So pissed. Basterds. Going to iRacing

Coffey and I will be on iRacing tonight Sat Jul 24. I'm shooting for 21:00 PDT. Probably Sim Lab Production Car Challenge (Philip Island) but will happily do something else so that no one has to buy any content.

I decided to check in on RF2, read the Sept. update. Same old crap different month "We improved the look of rain drops on the windshield", oh really that is what is important, and the usual "We have so many cool things and changes we are working on but we can't tell you yet", yea getting a warm fuzzy over that. I then wonder over to the forum section and seen this thread that is 14 pages of mostly agreeing with this video and people voicing there frustrations with Studio 397. I added a post on page 14. Some very interesting comments from the community. forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/now-this-is-a-great-summary-of-our-user-experience.69976/

Thanks, KJ, I'll check it out.
It's appeasing that at least with iRacing we get our money's worth, it's an American company and seems like it'll be around as long we are.

Checked in again with the October Road Map and ya more of the same and all this "Big stuff coming that we can't talk about yet". But hey they did bring back revamped name tags above cars because of many people asking for it! I have an idea how about don't remove anything that works, just improve and add to the sim.
I also fired up RF2 to let it update, 23 things.

Thanks for checking on rF2. I saw something on line I think last weekend a live race on rF2 that was being streamed/commentators etc. a good bit of cars. Anyway, we'll see.

I noticed they released a new UI that seems to be well received. I'll try it out tonight after being away from rF2 for several months.

Sure enough, new UI (thanks, Mike) as of Fri Jan 28 evening.
The UI that has rF2 sinking didn't bother me that much beyond what a disgusting pathetic disappointment it was (it was worse than the original UI, worse than rFactor UI and it used a lot of GPU IIRC but it didn't take long to learn how to navigate it) so I jumped to multiplayer privately hosted and S397 hosted. No apparent changes there, still can't see what exactly is being used on a server and online racing is "Beta".

Ok just did the update and checked it out. I gotta say it is a huge improvement. Much easier to find what you're looking for and once the game loads switches faster, fast page changes. Didn't do any racing just checking out the UI.
I may just be doing some RF2 racing tonight to really check it out.

Saturday night I did some RF2 racing to test it out, with this update my RF2 works again. When I did the update and looked at it in the afternoon there was a bunch of servers with people in them. At 10pm my time when I got on to actually drive it, of all the servers listed only 3 people on including me. I first tried one of the Studio 397 servers with another guy in it, unfortunately they have them set to forced cockpit view. Did it for a bit but that doesn't work for me tried another server and was taking forever to enter, I figured out that it was downloading content with out the indicator bars to let you know. Still no way to stop it or cancel out of the download, I had to Control/Alt/Delete to Task Manager to crash RF2.
Decided after that to just do some off/line running around with couple of different cars and tracks. Got to say out of all the race sims RF2 still has the best overall on track driving feel to me.
My conclusion is with the latest update with the new UI that maybe, just maybe RF2 can get back to being a great sim or at least better then what it had become. The recent acquisition of Studio 397 by Motorsports Games might be a big positive. I'll be keeping closer tabs on RF2 now.
