Seeing how there has been a discussion lately on AC, I thought we should keep it going here instead of scattered in other topics. As I stated before I have it and like AC, I have raced with it and like the interfaces and cars/ tracks available. The thing is you can be up and running with it fairly quickly, it's intuitive and just works. The racing part I've done open servers and that is a crap shoot if you are going to have a good race or not, usually qualifying towards the front helps not getting taken out in the first few corners. On the other hand there is a a addon for it and server/website that makes it more like iRacing. Organized races every hour with a schedule and better quality racing for the most part with a variety of cars and tracks per day. Here is a link to get you started with SRS (Sim Racing System) www.simracingsystem.com/schedule.php I have raced with Pat, Hutty and think Rich in this and we did pretty good. Might be fun to try a EFNET gathering in a race room on a Saturday night. I think a possible move to AC for us could potentially get back to larger fields of racers on our server if we could run AC on it, just a thought. There is no Steam Workshop for Assetto Corsa but their is a huge modding community for cars and tracks, I think we could find about any car/ track combo we wanted. Lets talk about this more. *** I should add that I don't have ACC so can't offer anything on that other then it is only GT3 racing, I think Hutty and Rich have it.***

Fingers crossed for rF2 but AC is an option whether we migrate or convert the NRT server. Thinking about it, maybe there's a thirst for AC leagues to get away from the public server level drivers.
I'm down for giving AC a try this Saturday night.

I finished setting up Assetto Corsa and did maybe a dozen laps with a Ford Mustang GT @ Laguna Seca.
I can see how many who have started with AC (and probably consoles) would quit in frustration after 15 minutes with rF2. AC was super easy and mostly intuitive to at least get started with. More time would probably reveal that, yeah, it's simple because it's missing parameters and functions that we are used to with rF2.
Driving was largely a disappointment from the first corner.
Numb steering that seems to just be spring loaded back to center. Too heavy for my liking and I couldn't find a way to reduce the FFB strength. After some adjustments, maybe its best feature was a decent oversteer effect as far as the steering unwinding on its own.
The car sounded good and looked good from the drivers seat but I doubt that the sounds are accurate to the real car. rF2 (hell, rFactor) can have great sounding cars, comes down to the maker but perhaps AC has made it a priority.
The track looked nice enough but I can say that about most rF2 tracks. No evolving track surface?
The replays were probably nicer looking overall than what I'm used to with rF2 but the car dynamics seemed to be inferior to rF2. Nice replays are a treat but I don't sim race to watch the replays.
My takeaway was no thank you, too big a step backwards as far as feel and whatever graphical improvement there might be just doesn't matter to me. I'd sooner replace beer with filtered water for a year and spend the savings on iRacing than go to AC.
I'm open to hopping on an AC server tonight, though. I can get used to how it drives.

I'll probably be on my normal 10 central time and going to do AC. I did not get that same feeling from the force feedback, I thought it was good but most of my racing has been in GT3 cars. I have also tried drifting with the Toyota AE86 drift car on some drift tracks and it is tough to do it right, but fun.

There are some ffb settings online that will drastically change the feel of a car. Some cars do feel better than others though. THey have the Historic mod we used in rF1 that is quite nice. Anyways, have fun gents. Wish I could race but I've gotta plant instead.

So how did the AC run go last week? Who showed up & is it viable overall? Was PAt, Tom and Hutty and me. Pat was having issues with it, Tom and I were just talking about it with Hutty. I did do a little driving after having to mess with things, it's been at least a year and we never did get all together to race. So we will have to reviste this

So how did the AC run go last week? Who showed up & is it viable overall? For whatever reason, Assetto's version of Matchmaker was malfunctionally slow and laggy for me. I have no interest in trying to fix it but will try again if others show up. I expect life to return to near-normal for me by the end of summer. I am very motivated to work hard and play hard in the real world, cut time liabilities both professionally and personally and surround myself with people and activities that make me happy not drain my energy. I need my Efnet workload to be lower not higher and have no interest in configuring another sim and praying for drivers to show up again. If we're just going to play around, I'd rather do it with rF2 or iRacing. If we can't pull off 10 drivers for the Flat 6 series and we either suspend championship racing till Fall or permanently, I'm either going to find another club to race competitively with rF2, increase my focus on iRacing or some mix of the two. I love the comradery of racing with the core group here but we could all benefit from racing elsewhere if don't have enough drivers.

I should also mention that while the NRT server is capable of running multiple sims and I think that AC is one of them, I've had to prune rF2 tracks and cars to fit our allotted drive space.
I'm not so sure that I could have AC plus whatever cars and 10+ tracks AND have even a minimized rF2 installation but if I could I'd expect an extra level of management to maintain both.

Also if you want to make the game look & perform even better, try the content manager on that site. Great addon tool.
